Learning & Teaching

Outline of the Australian Curriculum

Our goal for learning at St Andrew’s is to empower learners of all ages to shape and enrich our changing world by living the Gospel of Jesus. We believe that the person of Jesus gives meaning to life and to learning. Therefore we strive to develop life-long, reflective, self-directed learners who are becoming:
  • community contributors

  • quality producers

  • active investigators

  • effective communicators

  • designers and creators

  • leaders and collaborators

We believe that every learner is in some respect, like all others, like some others, like no other. Every person can achieve success in learning and can contribute positively to their community.

Our curriculum program provides opportunities for children to engage in purposeful and real life learning, fostering the capacity within each student for lifelong learning so that they can achieve their potential and play an active role in enriching our world.

St Andrew’s is a school community striving to serve the needs of students in an authentic way. One of the School’s key learning and teaching principles is to utilise innovative pedagogical practices that effectively integrate technology. The 1:1 laptop program gives practical expression to this principle.

Our school aims to be a technology-rich school integrating technology into all curriculum areas to enhance learning. In Year 5, students will hire a laptop from the school for their use throughout the year and for their use for the remaining two years of schooling. In 1:1 learning, each student has access to a wireless laptop to use at school and at home, enabling communication and collaboration among peers and teachers and connecting parents to their child’s learning. The 1:1 laptop program is cutting edge and enables students to experience growth in many areas - self confidence, organisation, motivation to learn and learning in a range of modalities.
