August 9, 2012: Year 6 Rosies Visit

On Friday the 3rd of August Year 6 was lucky enough to listen to guest speaker from Rosies. Rosies Friends on the Street is an organisation founded by an Oblate Priest in Victoria. Rosies provides outreach to the people in our society who might be alienated from their families or who don’t have a home to go to. Mr Bob Boardman who spoke to the Year 6 students said that Rosies was all about providing a community for those people who do not have one to belong to. Year 6 thought this fitted in very well with our Benedictine Charism of Community. Rosies has 700 volunteers in Queensland and 12 vans that go out to give coffee and a listening ear to people on the streets. Year 6 learnt a lot from Bob and were challenged to think about ways we can show social justice in our own lives.
