The Instrumental Program at St Andrew's is guided by a belief in the following principles:

  • The right of each individual to develop his/her potential
  • To develop an understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of music
  • To develop a further knowledge of music and develop an appreciation of the discipline required in performance
  • To use music to develop the individual – socially, emotionally and physically

The school band members compete in the Catholic Schools Music Festival each year.

All students in Years 3-6 have the opportunity to join the St Andrew's Strings Program. Students can learn the violin, viola, cello or guitar. Students are required to attend a 1/2 hour lesson once a week, as well as an ensemble rehearsal once per week.

The program currently has over 60 students and is run by Mrs Annette Milliken.

St Andrew's has a Junior Choir and a Senior Choir. The school choirs rehearse of a morning before school with Mrs Petra Sitsky who is our school specialist Music teacher. At times, the choirs are called on to lead school masses or other liturgies throughout the year. The choirs also compete at the Catholic Schools Music Festival held in Brisbane each year.
